Hair loss and Candida

To all of you that have hair loss, it’s terrible!

First you see your hair getting thinner and thinner and then it’s just pouring out… It’s so scary.

For a women losing her hair is terrifying.

I never gave up in finding the cause and I think I did.

I read an article saying that hair loss is an autoimmune disease and that science has not found a cause for it. Basically when your body is so busy fighting other causes it does not have time to bother about your hair. The result is hair loss that starts with your hair getting thinner and thinner, then itchy scalp and finally hair loss.

That’s what happened to me.

Went to the doctor, did all kind of test and nothing, I started taking all kind of supplements but nothing worked.

On blogs and forums I found that girls using the same shampoo as me had experienced hair loss. The shampoo had like many other shampoos Sodium Laureth Sulfate. I then started using natural shampoos; stopped taking all the supplement and my hair stopped falling.

The question was, why can’t I tolerate a normal shampoo when millions of people do. I found the answer and it is Candida overgrowth. Now, this might sound surprising but let me explain.

Candida overgrowth takes over your immune system which makes it so weak that it overreacts to everything.

You become intolerant to foods, chemicals and many others.

Your body detects them as bad and therefore puts all its energy to break them down.

The result among many other symptoms (see symptoms section on blog) was hair loss.

Since I started my Candida diet, my hair is not falling anymore, although still very dry and sensitive it is slowly getting better.

Maybe this is your answer, try this and you will see very fast: But first make sure that you go to your doctor and test for any other disease that might explain your hair loss.

Change your diet.
Change your shampoo to natural organic without any chemicals. I use Dr Organic and it works well.
Have a look at the symptom section, do you recognize this? Do you have other unexplained symptoms? If so there is a chance that you have Candida and that it is the cause of your hair loss.

I hope that this will help you, hair loss is terrible. I really believe that there is always an explanation. It’s your body telling you that something is not right; you need to listen to it and find out what’s wrong.

Good luck!

The Candida Diet is the key to feeling better!

Try to change your diet, your symptoms will get better!

Just give it a try.

Don’t give up!

From my experience and the research on internet I understand that there is nothing better than a strict diet to get rid of Candida.

There is so much information on the internet, some claim you can eat oats for example and other say absolutely not. From the hours I have spent looking and from my personal experience these are the foods to be avoided.

First:

- The rule is, do not eat anything canned, bagged or processed. Prepare all your meals; it’s the only way of knowing what’s in there! If you absolutely have to buy something packaged check the labels and if you see anything like fructose, glucose, lactose etc avoid it.
- Drink plenty of water! Water and only water.
- Don’t use any antibiotics unless you absolutely have to. Should you use antibiotics make sure that you are prepared by taking probiotics.
- Try to eat organic meats, this to avoid the antibiotics they might be giving to the animals.
- Drugs, alcohol consumption and smoking lower your immunity, try to avoid them.
- Don’t take birth control pills, or steroid drugs they promote the overgrowth of Candida.

Foods to avoid:

To avoid

All Fruits (canned, dried or fresh. They contain sugar, that feeds the Candida.

All sugars (natural or artificial. Sugar feeds Candida

Bread (even the ones from the heath store and no crackers). It contain yeast, sugar, and gluten which feeds Candida.

Pasta has sugar and yeast.

ALL baked goods, they contain sugar, yeast and gluten.

Careful with vitamin and supplements.I have found that some may contain gluten, sugar, starches, yeast or artificial sweeteners. You need to check labels.

Nuts, they mey contain mold which feeds the Candida.

Not fresh vegetables, Vegetables are fine but they need to be fresh, if not they
may contain mold.

Foods rich in carbohydrates. Here is a site that provides a good list. http://www.buzzle.com/articles/list-of-high-carbohydrate-foods.html

Potatoes and all starch vegetables. Will feed the Candida

Cheeses. Might contain yeast and mold

Mushrooms. Will feed the Candida

Vinegar. All vinegars, including balsamic, white vinegar, red wine vinegar, apple cider, rice vinegar

Spices are to be avoided

Dairy products. Candida is thought to impair the body’s ability
to digest fat. How much you may consume may depend on how you react to lactose.

Margarine. I have seen margarines where they add grape syrup!
Check the labels it’s amazing what you will find.

Wines. Will feed Candida

Beers. Contains yeast

Alcoholic beverages. Contain sugar

Ham, sausage, bacon. They are processed and contain sugar

Caffeine. Try to avoid it, it does increase the Candida growth

Sodas. Full with sugar even the so called light sodas, have sweeteners and will feed Candida. Sodas also contain caffeine.

All processed foods. Burger’s, pizza, chips, chocolate etc…

Sugar is everywhere!

It is so difficult to completely eliminate sugar. It’s everywhere. It toke me many months to understand the different types of sugars and in what foods they can be found. Not mentioning the withdrawal symptoms that I experienced. The intense craving for sugar is terrible but it goes away.

I did a lot of research on this. One site that helped me in the beginning of my sugar free diet is www.healthlady.com, it has a lot of valuable information.

If you experience sugar cravings, don’t give in! If you have Candida you will see your symptoms getting better. I personally started of by cutting out all processed sugars following the rule of nothing bagged, canned or processed. The cravings where terrible. I was a sugar addict! Thereafter I stopped all breads and finally cut out all fruits, natural sugars such as honey, pasta’s, rice and starchy vegetables.

My diet today:

Unprocessed meats
Unprocessed fish
Brown rice (some will say that you should not but I need to stop loosing weight)
Salads
Yogurt without sugar
I cook everything with sunflower oil.
Garlic

It’s not much fun but it really does help!

Mistakes!

Through my research on the best possible Candida diet I made many mistakes, here are some of them:

Nuts: First I bought them processed at the health store but soon realized that they contained sugar.
Beans: From the health store and unprocessed but did not realize that they where rich in carbohydrates.
Drugs for my constipation: It said on the package that they where sugar free, I was not getting better and could not understand why. I started reading and looking up every ingredient and bingo only sugar substitutes!

The foods I am not sure about:

Yogurt: I still don’t know as some argue that it is good for the Candida detox and others claim that it feeds the Candida.
Quinoa: Many people suffering from Candida say that this is better than brown rice. However comparing the values it seems as quinoa has more sugar. Here is a link with some information about it.
http://www.elements4health.com/quinoa.html
I will try to replace brown rice with Quinoa and update the blog when I see the results.

The benefits of my diet

As of today many of my symptoms are better. Acne, nausea, earache, hair loss, itchy scalp, sinus problems, stomach swelling, pain when urinating, vaginal discharge are much better.
There are many symptoms remaining, however Doctors believe that they have to do with my immune system being so weak. I hope that this will get better over time.

Supplements

Here is a list of supplements that are believed to help the Candida overgrowth:

Advanced multi-billion Dophilus; these are probiotics, they are the good bacteria that helps getting the Candida overgrowth under control.
Maximised Caprylic Acid; are believed to be an antifungal.

Please note that these supplements are from Solgar as they do not contain any sugar, starch or yeast. Have a look on there website, they provide some additional information on Candida. www.solgar.com

Garlic; is believed to be one of the most powerful antifungal. Better to have it fresh. Take a garlic clove and cut it in very small pieces, mix with water and drink. I personally do this 4 times a day.
I am also taking a anti parasite product that contains many antifungal herbs.

Good luck with your diet!

Acne and Candida

This only my personal experience but I really hope that it can help the millions of you that have acne.

I am 30! And my acne only got worse with time but knowing that I had Candida I had to change my diet drastically so this is what I did and the results on my Acne:

I stopped eating all processed sugar, did not make a difference
I stopped eating all products containing gluten and within 2 weeks my acne cleared to 70%. I could not believe it! Within the last month I have had two small spots. Feels fantastic to not have to worry about it anymore.

I then thought that I was gluten intolerant, went and did the test but it was negative.

There might be two explanations to this,

The 1st one is that when I stopped eating gluten I stopped eating all foods that contain yeast and therefore the Candida got better, in that case it would be the Candida that caused my acne.

The 2nd one is that I got a false negative on my result and that I really am gluten intolerant.

I am still on this diet and will never eat anything with gluten again! The main reason is that I can’t risk aggravating my Candida overgrowth.

If you are suffering from acne, why not give it a try! If that’s the reason of your acne you will see the results fast.

No more gluten involves, NO breads, pasta and processed foods, avoid everything with grains, check the labels for gluten it’s everywhere. Some say that oats are OK but for me it definitely does not work. (see more on the diet section)

Good luck!

Listen to your body, your symptoms are showing you that something is wrong!

Symptoms
Candida has caused me to be so so ill!

Here are the symptoms I have experienced. Do know that these symptoms are not caused by any other sickness found in traditional medicine as I have tested for absolutely EVERYTHING there is.

-Hair loss
-Scalp itching
-Constantly swollen around eyes, nose, chin, cheeks.
-Bags under eyes
-Sinus problems
-Pain behind the ears
-Headache, feels like it’s going to explode.
-Acne
-Neck pain
-Very dry hands.
-Stomach swollen
-Nausea
-Constant constipation
-Pain when urinating
-Pain in the blather
-Viginal discharge
-Pain in the legs (mussel pain)
-Extreme fatigue
-Irritability, mood swings.
-Insomnia

All these symptoms seemed to be coming and going.

So, you might not believe that such severe symptoms can be caused by candida overgrowth. However, let me explain why I know it is.

I have tried everything to get rid of my symptoms, even before I knew that it was caused by Candida.

A strict diet helps!

Here are the results of my multiple diets:

1) I cut out all artificial sugars: My nausea, earache and neck pain became much better.
2) I cut out all sugars, including fruits as well as all gluten products: I have not experienced nausea, earache or neck pain since. My acne is gone. ( I can now say that after not having had severe acne for over a month!) The viginal discharge is better, the pain with urination is practically gone and I do not experience any itchy scalp or hair loss anymore. (read more on hair loss and candida)
3) My face is still swollen, I have severe fatigue and the food intolerances are not gone. This is probably due to the fact that it takes time to heal. The immune system is still very weak and the Candida is still there. It takes time. (read more on food intolerances and candida)

I still have to make some dietary changes. I have been eating nuts lately to gain a little weight and I don’t think it’s good as I have experienced some viginal discharge again.
On several articles it states that you should not eat nuts as they might contain mold which will increase Candida. I have also been eating yogurt (without any sugar off course) but I am still uncertain about it. Some say you should eat a lot of it for the probiotics and others say that it should not be in the diet.

I will post more on this in the diet section.

I hope that this has helped you!

It's real, candida makes you seriously ill!

I started becoming seriously ill 4 years ago. After having done all and I really say all the medical test the only thing the doctors would tell me was; you are perfectly healthy it must be phsycological!

But I could not believe it, I started searching for answer on the internet, spent hours and hours. I then realized that all my problems where caused by one thing called Candida.

Wow, I thought this would be a relief so that I could finally do something about it so I started diets cutting out most foods … and I now know that it’s beating Candida is not that easy.

So for all of you that have heard doctors saying; but you are perfectly healthy we don’t know why you have constant nausea or constipation or acne or hair loss or pain …. I hope that my experience can help you.

I will post all the information I have on this blog, all the research I have done, my diet and much more.

Take good care and good luck,

Alexandra

Finding out that it is Candida

Finding the cause of my symptoms took 4 years and here is my story…

Growing up I was always one of those that were never really feeling a 100%! You know, headaches coming and going, sometimes migraines, fullness in the stomach, terrible PMS every month, needed a lot of sleep, dizzy at times, acne, constipation ...

I did not know any better so I thought that it was normal.

I started a career in the hotel business and thereafter in banking, it involved a lot of stress and working many hours. I managed to push back how I felt but my body let me know that something was seriously wrong as I fainted on several occasions. Ah, no fun fainting in the dirty Paris metro or in meetings in front of clients... Doctors told me all this was caused by stress which I believed.

At that time my diet was terrible, only sodas, breads, grabbing something at the bakery or fast food for lunch ….

Met my husband, became pregnant and stopped working. I thought ok now I’m really going to take care of myself and finally feel good! But that's when it all started.

I changed my diet… started drinking home made smoothies, ate lots of healthy food and bigger quantities (always been very skinny), but still drinking a lot of diet coke. Hey no one is perfect!
Read more on posting healthy food is it really healthy for you?

About 6 months after the birth of my child I started getting the following symptoms:

Constant nausea
Constant constipation
Pain with urination
Vaginal discharge
Pain in the neck and back
Constant swelling of the face (nose, lips, chin, cheeks, eye arcade)
Pain behind the ears
Swelling sensation and pain in the head
Sinus problems so bad that I could not wear sun glasses anymore
Mussel pain in legs when I would wake up
Skin discoloration (darker spots)
Acne (severe)
Allergies
Hair loss

What I did:

During 3 years I went from doctor to doctor. I did all possible and imaginable test including an MRI, gastroscopy, blood work .... and NOTHING! Every doctor told me that my symptoms simply did not make sense. You know how frustrating that is... everyone thinks your crazy! At a certain point I even started to believe it myself.

Did not give up!

I started searching on the internet and found so much valuable information.
It takes a lot of time to understand and link all your symptoms.

Started thinking that my body could not handle sugar so I stopped eating or drinking any sugar at all at least that’s what I thought! But sugar is in everything (read more on stopping eating sugar). It took me a long long time to understand what were the different types of sugar and in which foods they where.
The result: Stopping eating sugar helped reducing my nausea and pain behind the ears but it would come back from time to time.

Because of all my allergies that where just getting worse and worse I thought that I was gluten intolerant. Started researching on the net and started a gluten free diet. This helped a lot. I think that the combination of not eating any artificial sugars or any gluten made some of my symptoms nearly disappear:
First after 2 week my acne was 70% better and then the nausea, pain behind the ears, neck pain, insomnia, viginal discharge, dizziness started getting better.

I went to check if I was gluten intolerant with a gastroscopy that turned up negative. However as I was feeling so much better I continued with it.

My husband also went for the same test that revealed that he had a bacteria called pylori so the doctors said well as we believe that this is contagious we do believe that you have pylori and that this is the cause of your symptoms. They put us both on antibiotics and BIG mistake for me. After the cure ALL my symptoms came back worse.

I did not understand what was happening!

Started reacting to everything, became intolerant to everything. The worse is that I became intolerant to a substance called salicylate, found in many vegetables, shampoos, toothpaste and many others. I think that I have always been sensitive to this but never to this extend. My face was now constantly swollen. In the past I would get swollen but never to that extend.

I then started researching this allergy and had to start another diet the salicylate free diet. If you are salicyate sensitive I truly sympathize, it’s no fun at all.

A couple of days later, I wanted to bake a cake with my son. I did not even eat or touch the yeast and I got so so sick, nausea, pain behind the ears, swollen stomach ….

I then started researching and realized that it was Candida. Suddenly everything came together, the explanation to all my symptoms and the reason why my allergies had gotten so much worse. Candida causes the immune system to go down and therefore your body react to everything. The antibiotics that I toke made my Candida overgrowth terrible.

After that it was clear. I had found the answer I had looked for so long.

So now I am in constant battle and for me it’s not easy, but I am fighting it and determined to get better.

I am on a strict diet and taking supplements. I have researched the supplement issue, whether its better taking natural or traditional medicine. Read more about my diet on the blog.

On my blog I will post all about my diet, my symptoms my progress and much more. I will post a soon as I try something new and what the results are.

I hope that this will be able to help all of you that are suffering from chronic illness and like me have been searching for an answer.

Take good care and don’t give up, your body is showing you that something is wrong you need to find what and get better!
